BLM Lands and DOGE shenanigans

90 Miles from Needles newsletter for April 9 2025

Hey friends,

We know it’s been a minute — thank you for bearing with us. After losing a crucial grant, Chris has been juggling a lot behind the scenes to keep 90 Miles from Needles and the Desert Advocacy Media Network alive and thriving. Here’s some press coverage of that grant thing.

We’re so grateful you’re with us here. Though this loss — sparked by the DOGE assault on American institutions — was dispiriting in the extreme, standing with all of you to speak up for the deserts makes up for the disappointment and anger.

Now for the good news: a new episode just dropped!

🎙️ Episode 11: Beauty Meets Struggle — The Endangered Treasures of BLM Lands
Join us for a sweeping look at the fragile beauty — and growing threats — on our public lands. From majestic vistas to cultural treasures, BLM-managed lands are under constant pressure. We talk to author Joshua Jackson about why these places matter and what it will take to save them.

You can get a preorder in for Josh’s forthcoming book The Enduring Wild: A Journey into California’s Public Lands here.

We’re still here, still fighting for the desert, and still grateful for every one of you who listens, shares, and supports this work. We appreciate you.

Feel free to share this newsletter with anyone you think may be interested! That’s the fastest way we grow our readership.

Aridly;

Chris
